'''''Matchbook Messiah''''' is the first novel to be set in the Rainwall universe. It follows the story of [[Frank Bruenody]] and [[Guy Jericho]], who are captured by the [[Blister Clan]] for a planned human sacrifice to their god, [[Albaron]]. Frank, however, passes their test and is offered to join them. He makes a deal to be let go, but he must bring back 100 other captives within a year or his daughter will be burned alive. He gets them to release Guy as well, and together they set out to gather 100 people. Frank's does this by forming a cult called the [[Frankists]], which he plans to use as an army to rescue his daughter instead of sacrificing them.
