Cybrids are human-animal hybrids that have been created inside the laboratory at Facility 42. Creation of the cybrids was the purpose of Operation Rainwall. Some people believe that the word cybrid is a portmanteau of cybernetic and hybrid, which alludes to some inclusion of cybernetic enhancement in addition to the biological component, but these rumors have thus far been unsubstantiated. Also of note is that the name of each species came about after the cataclysm when the cybrids broke free from the laboratory and the Vanthavirus was released. It is also rumored that cybrids are still being created inside a new laboratory; this operation is thought to be led by a group of the escaped cybrids and that new species are being created all the time.
